Mani Rimdu Festival Trek takes you to a thrilling Buddhist celebration at a stunning altitude of 3,867 metres ( 12, 687 ft).Mani Rimdu is a cumulation of sacred ceremonies performed by the Sherpas of the Khumbu region in tribute to the teaching of Buddhism in the laps of the Himalayas in the Everest region. The festival takes place over a 19 day period but is officially celebrated over a period of three days, opening you to a world of dramas, masked dances, sublime prayers, and feasts and highlights the defeat of evil forces. The festival occurs in the Tengobche Monastery during the first day of the tenth month of the Tibetan lunar calendar which is generally during the months of October and November. These months are perfect to accommodate a trek, as the weather transitions from summer to winter, opening up the skies, exposing you to breath taking panoramic views of some of the wildest yet beautiful mountain ranges which include Mount Everest ( 8848m) , Lhotse (8516m), Nuptse (7855m) , Amadablam ( 6812m) , Khongde Himal (6200m), and Thamserku( 6430m) .
Mani Rimdu Festival Trek starts from the capital city , Kathmandu. A one day tour of the vibrant city will expose you to the cultural richness the lands of the mountains has to offer. The next day, your journey to the Everest region begins. A thirty-minute flight will take you to Lukla, a mysterious land at an altitude of 2840m. The same day, your first trek will take you to Phakding(2610m). On the third day, a 5/6 hour trek will take you to Namchebazaar(3440m), also recognized as the gateway to the high Himalayas. You can enjoy the local market here, and experience the culture of Sherpas. The next day is acclimatization day. A few hours of trek throughout the day , and return back to Namchebazaar for the night will be enough to acclimatise the body for higher altitudes. The fifth day is a special one, as by the end of it you will have reached Tengboche(3860m). This the village where the Mani Rimdu festival takes place and is a 4/5 hour trek from Namchebazaar. The next three days will be spent celebrating , observing and experiencing the rich and vibrant festival, an experience that you will cherish for a life time. On the 10th day , you will start your journey back to the capital. A 4/5 hour trek will bring you back to Namchebazaar where you will spend the night. The next morning , you trek down to Lukla ( 6\7 hours) where you spend the night, and get ready for a flight back the next day to Kathmandu.
